Biography

Dr. Akcaoglu is a professor at the Faculty of Applied Sciences of Manisa Celal Bayar University in Turkey. He is heading the Department of Capital Markets of the faculty. He is also co-founder, and co-chairman of the Würzburg International Business Forum. Earlier, he served at various other universities including Loughborough University (UK), and the University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt (FHWS) in Germany. He has worked and taught at universities and companies in Turkey, Germany, UK, Colombia, and the Saudi Arabia. Before becoming a full-time academic, he was underwriting manager at Turk Eximbank, the Turkish official export credit agency. While he was in banking industry for fifteen years, he was involved in export and project financing, export credit insurance and foreign direct investment financing transactions for a number of countries and companies. He has also consulted with various companies and organisations including UNCTAD on international business and FDI-related issues in the capacility of a consultant. He teaches courses such as ‘international finance’, ‘international financial management’, ‘international trade and project finance’, ‘international business’, ‘international business strategy’, ‘country analysis’, ‘multinational corporations and foreign direct investment’, ‘SME internationalisation’, and ‘international entrepreneurship’. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics from Hacettepe, and Loughborough Universities, and PhD in business from Ankara University.
