Throughout history, Istanbul has been the most important political, cultural and commercial center of the world. Coming forward with its unique historical accumulation and splendid natural beauties, as well as successfully undersigning several international events in recent years, Istanbul has been selected as the “2010 European Culture Capital.” From this point of view, Istanbul has all of the ingredients for a very vibrant creative city. Its cultural diversity -both historically and currently- is an incredible asset that could be more fully leveraged. The city’s natural assets, physical assets, and human capital assets together provide the essential ingredients for a creative city. On the other hand, the road to innovation and creativity passes through human, human intelligence and knowledge. Thereby, the decisive element is the intellectual capital. But creative thinking cannot occur or develop without the appropriate climate. Fortunately, in this sense, Istanbul is improving in being a global center by improving its historical heritage, and cultural diversity. In accordance with the ones mentioned above, in this study, we will seek concrete answers to the following questions: Is the city of Istanbul compatible with the idea of the creative city? What kind of applications are available in Istanbul that can be called an example of the creative city? In this respect, what are the features which distinguishes it from any other cities of the world? Istanbul, can be a model city for creative cities?
