Özet

It is noteworthy that in the studies carried out in the education literature for many years, a conceptual consensus on the roles of inspectors has not been reached. In addition, it is understood from the relevant literature that the implementation of the roles defined for inspectors is still a problematic area. From this point of view, this study aims to comprehensively discuss the roles of inspectors who have a critical role in the education system. In line with this purpose, primarily the duties, authorities, and responsibilities of inspectors and related inspection, classroom inspection, examination, research, and investigation issues that develop accordingly are discussed. Then, based on these duties, the roles of the inspectors were defined. The defined roles have shown that inspectors have a versatile functions and they need to have various technical, managerial, and communication skills to fulfill these roles. It is thought that the results obtained within the scope of the research and the recommendations for the Turkish education system can contribute to both inspectors and policymakers in terms of providing a standard inspector role.
