Özet

The hardfacing coatings provide a thick protective layer against corrosion owing to their hard carbide and/or boride compounds. This study aims to reveal the effect of boron content on corrosion resistance of iron-based hardfacing coatings. Hardfacing was applied by arc welding method using massive filler wire, ferrochromium (FeCr) and ferroboron (FeB) powders. The Vickers hardness (HV20) tended to increase with increasing amount of boron in the coating material. The corrosion rate of the coatings was measured according to the Tafel extrapolation method. The corrosion resistance decreased with increasing boron content. Minimum corrosion rate was observed in the boron-free coating.
