It has become generally accepted that science determines technology: technology is nothing with the application of scientific knowledge. In fact, technology, defined as “applied science”, is said to emerge from the use of scientific knowledge, energy and matter as a consumable product. Therefore, the question of whether science influences and determines technology, or whether technology, which is used for functioning huge laboratories and for solving very complicated problems and providing evidence, determine science has become a kind of chicken or egg question. The study rejects the claims that technology derives from science and is an infrastructure for it, or that technology exists only with science. In this direction, this problem is investigated through the Scientific Revolution, which is determined as the breaking point. In the study, it is claimed that science and technology, which followed separate paths for thousands of years, remained separate fields in the Scientific Revolution also, but the mental and intellectual transformation that took place with this revolution opened the existence of the wall between these two, which was seen as indestructible, to question. Accordingly, the problematic of the study is how the barrier between science and technology, which followed separate paths for thousands of years, was removed. In this direction, the hermeneutic method was used, and it was pointed out that the Scientific Revolution changed the connection and understanding of Being-knowledge of the epoque and eliminated the obstacle in the transformation of science into technology as applied-science.
Bilimin teknolojiyi belirlediği ve teknolojinin bilimsel bilginin uygulanmasından ibaret olduğu genel bir kanı halini almıştır. Hatta “uygulayımbilim” olarak tanımlanan teknoloji, tüketilebilir bir ürün olarak bilimsel bilginin, enerji ve maddenin kullanımıyla ortaya çıktığı ifade edilmektedir. Dolayısıyla bilim mi teknolojiyi etkileyip belirlemekte, yoksa devasa laboratuvarların işlemesi, çok çetrefilli sorunsalların çözülebilmesi ve kanıtların ortaya konulabilmesi için kullanılan teknoloji mi bilimi belirlemektedir sorusu bir tür tavuk mu yumurta mı sorusu halini almıştır. Çalışmada, bu soruya cevap olarak verilen, teknolojinin bilimden türediği ve ona bir altyapı olduğu ya da teknolojinin ancak bilim ile var olduğu iddiaları reddedilmektedir. Bu doğrultuda kırılma noktası olarak belirlenen Bilimsel Devrim üzerinden bu sorun araştırılmıştır. Çalışmada, binlerce yıl ayrı yollar izleyen bilim ve tekniğin Bilimsel Devrim’de de ayrı alanlar olarak kaldıkları iddia edilmiş ancak bu devrimle gerçekleşen zihinsel ve entelektüel dönüşümün, bu ikisi arasında yıkılmaz görülen duvarın varlığını sorgulamaya açtığı ileri sürülmüştür. Bu doğrultuda çalışmanın sorunsalı, binlerce yıl ayrı yollar izleyen bilim ve tekniğin arasındaki engelin nasıl kaldırıldığıdır. Bu doğrultuda anlamacı yöntem kullanılmış ve Bilimsel Devrim’in, dönemin Varlık-bilgi irtibatını ve anlayışını değiştirdiğine işaret edilerek, bilimin uygulamalı-bilim olarak teknolojiye dönüştürülmesindeki engelin ortadan kaldırıldığı tespit edilmiştir.
