Özet

Bonding, as an important thermo-chemical surface hardening method, has been commonly applied to full density materials. The aim of this study is to investigate changing in the surface hardness and microstructure of boronized P/M steel specimens.. ASC 100.29 grade (Höganas) Fe based powder was cold compacted in a single action press. Then specimens were sintered. Boronizing was applied to sintered specimens using EKabor HM powder as boronizing agent at 900°C temperature for 2 and 4 hours. Three different zones were observed on the cross-sectional area of P/M steel specimens as it is on the full density materials. Boronizing time has an effect on the borided layer thickness. As boronizing time is increasing, layer thickness is also increasing. Microhardness numbers of boride specimens on the cross-sectional area were determined. Hardness changing curves in the boride layer and matrix material were plotted.
