Özet

Fast neutrons generated when high-energy particals interact with matter are very penetrative and not easy to attenuate. To protect personnel or the environment from the effects of neutrons, shielding is necessary. Neutron shielding is very difficult because of the much lower absorption cross sections at higher energies. Thus energetic neutrons are slowed down when they undergo elastic or inelastic scattering and then slow neutrons are absorbed. Several materials are used for neutron shielding such as concrete and iron.

In this study, Ferro-boron (FeB, Fe2B) and standard concrete were selected as shielding material. The shielding thickness against the neutrons produced in the interaction of 600 MeV protons is obtained by using FLUKA Monte Carlo code.
