The beginning of the sufi movement goes back to the time of the Prophet, the Companions and "tabi'dn" (the second generation following the Companions of the Prophet) time. However, its emergence as an individual movement started in the second half of 8th century and it completed its emergence period in the 9m century. Sufism developed thanks to the movement of asceticism, which was started in Basra and Kufah cities and spread to Mawarannahr and Khorasan provinces. Influential and distinguished sufi scholars who led the way of sufism were brought up in these areas. Sufi worldview is established on an Islamic base; however, it has its variations depending on the geographies it spread over time. Accordingly, we have variations in nomenclature such as Iran sufism, Turkish sufism. In this study, the relationship between the Khorasan-based Turkish sufism and the early period sufism will be discussed. What is meant by early period sufism here is the sufism concept established on and through the works of sufi theoreticians such as Al- Kushayri, Hujwiri, Kalabazi. The works of these authors reflect the theoretical, systematized or institutionalized dimension of sufism. As to the Khorasan based Turkish Sufism, we will try to appeal to the views of the sufis of the early sufism such as Haji Bektash Wall, Khwaja Ahmad Yasawi, who represent the dimensions of sufi wisdom and action ofsufism. By this means, we will try to examine the relationship between systematic understanding of sufism and Khorasan-based Turkish sufism.
