Abstract

Corynophlaea crispa (Harvey) Kuckuck (Phaeophyceae, Corynophlaeaceae) is reported for the first time in the Mediterranean Sea. This species was collected growing as an epiphyte on Cystoseira barbata from the Candarli Bay (Aegean Sea, Turkey) in the midlittoral zone (0.5-1.0 m). Its recurved paraphyses, consisting of 9-18 cells, and the sole production of unilocular sporangia were observed. Hitherto it was known only from the northeastern Atlantic. © 2006 J.
